PARENTING A TEEN CAN BE CHALLENGING…

As a parent, you want to be connected and involved in your teen’s life, but you don’t know how to do it. I get it.

Knowing how to be there for your teen isn’t easy.

Do any of these situations sound familiar?

  • Your teen comes home from school and goes straight to their room without saying a word

  • Your teen yells, “you don’t understand!” every time you try to help them fix a problem

  • Your teen’s laughing one minute and crying the next. You can’t bare to see them struggle and you feel completely helpless because you don’t know what to do

  • Your teen opens up about their struggles with other people, but not with you

  • You wish your teen would interact with you—you’re tired of the wordless car rides back from school and the silent family dinners

As parents we want to fix our teen’s problems or give them advice, but that usually backfires if we want to strengthen our relationship with them.

How would it feel if your teen…

  • Confided in you first instead of telling other people about their struggles

  • Came home from school and opened up to you because they know you listen without judging them

  • Allowed you to hug them or sit with them while they cried over a difficult situation

  • Sat with you and told you about a struggle they were facing with their best friend because they value your time and companionship

  • Asked you to give them a ride to their friend’s house, talked to you about their day in the car, or happily joined you at the dinner table

The HEAR Method

By learning how to listen to your teen through my highly effective 3-step Hear Method, you’ll learn the skills needed to relate more easily and confidently with them.

This will allow your teen to feel like they can come to you when they’re faced with a challenging situation.

It gives them the support they need to feel like they don't have to carry their struggles on their own—you can help ease their burden, and have the sense of connection and involvement you’ve been wanting for so long.
